Waheeda Rehman Nominated For Dadasaheb Phalke Award

The Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has nominated veteran actress Waheeda Rehman for the “Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award 2023”. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur announced the name of the actress, recognizing Waheeda Rehman’s outstanding work in Hindi cinema.

Praising Waheeda Rehman, Anurag further says, “In a career spanning 5 decades, she has played many roles with great sophistication, which led to her winning the National Film Award for Best Actress in Reshma and Sheera. Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee, Waheeda ji exemplifies the dedication, determination and strength of an Indian woman, who can achieve the highest level of professionalism through hard work.”

Waheeda Rahman turns 85 today. She started her Hindi cinema career in the year 1962 with Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam. She next appeared in the late superstar Dev Anand starrer film Guide in 1965. Waheeda became a star overnight with this film.

It may be noted that Waheeda’s name was announced for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at a time when her co-star Dev Anand’s 100th birthday is on September 26.

After Guide, Waheeda went on to star in Teesri Kasam (1966), Ram and Shyam (1967), Neel Kamal (1968), Khamoshi (1970), Reshma and Shera (1971), Kabhi Kabhi (1976), Namkeen (1982), Chandni (1989) and acted in the film Lamhe (1991). Waheeda Rahman also acted in Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor starrer Delhi 6 in 2009.
